The Bükk National Park Directorate (BNPD) bought the piece of land a few years ago in the framework of the LIFE4OakForests project. The previous owner did logging in an unsustainable manner, which damaged this habitat. WWF Hungary’s project coordinator and BNDI’s forester visited the area in October to discuss how natural regeneration could be supported with active nature conservation management measures so that a truly diverse forest can develop and native tree seedlings, such as turkey oak, downy oak or Tatarian maple. This diversity is important for the forest to withstand the challenges of climate change, providing a habitat for many protected animal and plant species.
