We celebrated Dr. Jane Goodall’s 90th birthday with a ,meadow naming celebration on Buda Sas-hegy Nature Reserve.
The world-renowned primate researcher is celebrating his 90th birthday today, on the occasion of which we, together with the Jane Goodall Institute, Sas-hegy Védő Egyesület and the Újbuda Municipality, named the meadow at the foot of the hill where he planted a sapling during his visit in 2019 in his honor. Zita Bakai-Nagy, deputy mayor of Újbuda, Ervin Tihanyi, president of Sas-hegy Védő Egyesület, and Ádám Selmeczi-Kovács, director of the Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate, gave a short greeting at the family-friendly ceremony. Ten-year-old Mira and twelve-year-old Dorina spoke on behalf of the Roots&Shoots Movement started by Jane Goodall. At the end of the naming celebration, we greeted the person being celebrated in a joint video message.
The clearing, now named Jane Goodall meadow, is located in the target area of the Life4OakForests project. In the framework of this, we carry out vegetation and landscape rehabilitation works in the foothills of Buda Sas-hegy Nature Reserve, as part of which some paths, such as Kosbor út and Szent Márton path, have already been named. With the current naming, we would like to create another memory for the renowned scientist, also in this way paying tribute to his outstanding scientific and environmental work.
